As an approved certification, CISSP provides coverage for job roles in five of the seven workforce elements:

  • IT (Cyberspace)
  • Cybersecurity
  • Cyberspace Effects
  • Cyberspace Enablers
  • Software

A renewed Cyber Workforce Framework released by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), DoD Manual 8140 has created a workforce marketplace to provide a more expansive and accessible framework for mapping roles, skills and abilities to cyber roles that support the DoD and its mission.

The vast inclusion of CISSP is attributed to the value and integrity that the certification represents as the gold standard in cybersecurity certifications for 30 years. CISSP and all ISC2 certification examinations are continuously evolving to maintain their value to both public and private sectors. As a result of ongoing consultation with cybersecurity subject matter experts and exhaustive job task analyses, the latest CISSP examination outline became effective this April. The full span of ISC2’s nine certifications are represented in the marketplace, approved for 46 of the 54 work roles.
