Across March we have been honoring women in cybersecurity and showcasing their career experiences. We have collated all our research, member stories, video interviews and other resources we have published in one place for ISC2 members and cybersecurity hiring managers to leverage going forward.

Women have contributed so much to the foundations of cybersecurity. The work of Grace Hopper that led to the creation of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the women codebreakers of Bletchley Park during World War Two are just some of the many examples of women playing pivotal roles in the origins of modern cybersecurity technologies and practices. Yet, women are underrepresented in the cybersecurity sector today. ISC2’s Cybersecurity Workforce study is illustrative of this, with only 22% of respondents to the latest iteration being women. Despite this disparity, women working in cybersecurity are, according to our findings, more engaged in cybersecurity leadership and more involved in decision making, problem solving and direction-setting.

Across the month, alongside Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, ISC2 has shared inspiring career stories from women working at every level in cybersecurity, highlighting their experiences, the challenges faced, how they have overcome obstacles and adversity, and how cybersecurity has been a rewarding and engaging career path for everyone.
